10 Less told ways to Increase Productivity

Get off Facebook – Cut down your Facebooking time!

You found this article, most likely on Facebook, that’s okay. But think about how many hours a day you spent on Facebook? On the phone, at work, before going to bed – all the time? Well, let’s reinforce the obvious truth. Cut down your Facebook time. Studies show that less Facebook time = More productivity. (Well, we made that up, but you got the idea!)

  • Make shorter To-do lists

We all make to do lists. Long enough that we end up missing out on some of them. Well, if the job was important enough, you wouldn’t put it on the list in the first place. Right? So instead of making long lists, make them shorter. Shorter goals are easier to achieve.

  • Treat everything on your to do list with same priority

Many of you might disagree with this. How can you get things done if they are treated with the same priority? Well, even though you prioritized them, do you see some of them slipping down the list, even after you creating them? Well, that is human tendency. Try to make them prioritized based on urgency or time. That way at least the first in will get done first.

  • Any task should be done in 30 minutes

For example, instead of tracking the entire time taken to get a job done, count them in smaller cycles. Like 30 minutes. Any job should be done in 30 minutes, not more. If it goes beyond 30 minutes, stop doing it. Its only making the other things on the list suffer.

  • Say No if you cannot get something done

Most of us try to make people happy by promising them things that they cannot do. This is not the right approach. If you have something that will take time, tell them no first up. They might not be happy first, but at least they’ll appreciate your honesty in the long run.

  • Count in terms of musical cycles

Do you listen to music while doing things? Then count in cycles of your favorite music. For instance if there is this one song that helps you get things done, put it on loop. So if the song is actually 5 minutes long, you’ll count as to how many times you played the song. So at the end of it you’ll be able to say how many cycles it took to get the job done.

  • Don’t do everything single handed. Collaborate with others

One of the things that smart people do is collaborate with others and get things done together rather than single handed. More people involved, means more creativity and more ways to get things done.

  • Share your goals. Friends influence you positively

Tell others what you’re working on and what you’re trying to achieve. Studies have proved that if you share your goals, others influence you positively to getting that thing done.

  • Take frequent breaks in between

People stay away from taking breaks fearing that their focus and concentration will be lost. This is a wrong notion. Instead, take more frequent breaks. Your brain will get better ideas and energy with breaks and will be able to focus more and function more effectively.

  • Go public with your objectives

Researches have shown that if you share your goals and objectives with public, you are more likely to get them done, rather than in private. But publicly sharing them is not enough. You got to keep track of it as well, or give others a chance to check back with you on progress. ResolutionTweet is one such app that will let you do that effectively with your friends. Try it out!
